The thermostat is the brain of your HVAC system. However, if you’ve gone to adjust the temperature only to find the display completely blank, you have a problem. Luckily, a blank screen does not mean that your thermostat is completely non-functional. A handful of issues can cause a blank screen, and some are rather easy to fix.
Dead Batteries
Some thermostats are wired in, but if yours is simply mounted on the wall, then it runs on batteries. Some may use AA batteries while others require 3-volt batteries. Take the old batteries out and try new ones before moving onto other causes.
If your thermostat is actually wired in, you may want to check the connection as well. While there are no batteries to change, loose wiring or a tripped fuse can cause this issue as well. If that’s the case, it’s best to contact us so we can look into the issue for you.
Furnace Door Is Open
Oddly enough, if you recently had your furnace inspected, the door may not be closed properly. When this happens, some thermostats are programmed to shut off for safety reasons. This is an easy fix!
Your Thermostat Has Died
It’s likely you will suspect this issue first when the thermostat has a blank screen, and sometimes it is true. The older your thermostat is, the more likely this becomes. Having said that, sometimes a thermostat will just go out. If this is the case, you will want to look into a new model. If this is the case, contact Falcon Heating & Air Conditioning today. We will be able to install a new thermostat quickly and correctly!
